The first smallholder survey was conducted during the second week of October (12-13 October 2024), involving 45 smallholders. The survey took place in two key locations: Antapan and Candikuning, both of which are known for their agricultural activities. After completing the smallholder survey, the research team moved on to the in-chain survey, which focused on collecting insights from traditional retailers, modern retailers, and suppliers. The survey covered 8 traditional retailers located in two important markets: Badung Traditional Market and Batu Kandik Traditional Market, both of which are critical hubs for agricultural product distribution. Additionally, the team surveyed 4 key suppliers based in Candikuning, who play a vital role in linking local farmers to the wider market. The survey of modern retailers take place on Wednesday, 23 October 2024. We had survey two retailers: Pande Putri Supermarket and Freshindo.
To ensure inclusivity and representativeness in the study, the research team placed a special emphasis on gender equality. As part of this effort, we increased the number of smallholder respondents by including 10 additional female farmers. This reflects our commitment to highlighting the unique experiences and contributions of women in agriculture. Additionally, to enrich the data and information, we conducted another survey involving 25 smallholders in the Bedugul area. In total, we surveyed 80 smallholder farmers, providing a comprehensive dataset that captures a diverse range of perspectives. This diverse sample will help us better understand the dynamics of the local agriculture-tourism value chain and address the specific needs of both male and female farmers in these regions.
