During the workshop held on December 1, 2024, 40 participants, including smallholder farmers and in-chain actors, identified key challenges facing agribusiness
for tourism. The main issues highlighted included maintaining product quality and continuity to meet the standards of HORECA, difficulties in marketing
products and accessing premium markets, the impacts of climate change on crop yields, and limited access to funding for investment in agricultural
technologies. Participants also pointed out the inefficiencies in planting patterns, outbreaks of pests and diseases, and the growing demand for organic
products, which many farmers struggle to meet due to insufficient technical support. Other challenges discussed included price instability, delayed payments,
unreliable suppliers, limited access to agricultural inputs, and overproduction without adequate market absorption.
Despite these challenges, the workshop provided a valuable opportunity for participants to discuss potential solutions, such as improved coordination among
actors in the supply chain, better market access, and financial support for innovation. These discussions laid the foundation for building a stronger, more
inclusive agribusiness ecosystem that can better support smallholder farmers and connect them to the tourism sector. The insights gained from this workshop
will help shape the development of collaborative models and interventions that will be supported throughout the duration of the “Agribusiness for Tourism”
project, which runs until 2028
